why we need disruptive female celebrities

avril lavigne was my first female celebrity icon. she burst onto the scene when i was around ten years old, rocking baggy jeans, boys ties and more eyeliner than you could buy in boots. in interviews she was moody, didn't girate on television at every opportunity, and i idolised her. i wore my hair in long, straight curtains across my face, baggy jeans with a nice pink chain from tammy girl, and listened to 'let go' so many times i had to buy the CD three times.

then she married that guy from nickelback and sang a weird song about hello kitty, but you get the gist.

Things we all need to stop worrying about. Now. I mean it.

the state of the world right now, let's face it, is pretty shoddy. every day we wake up to hear of a new horrific disaster to plague the world, a new hashtag mourning the deaths of millions around the world. and still, i find myself worrying about my hair, or the tone of an email.

it's time we stopped worrying about some of the more trivial matters, don't you think?

a twenty-something horror story: the next size up

'can i still wear disco pants?!' she thought to herself in frustration as she tore the entirety of her wardrobe apart. she held the ragged worn away leggings up, with the white elastic peeping out around the crotch area (victim to many slut drops in night clubs that couldn't quite handle the pressure and passion behind the dance move).

she shook her head, said 'goodbye old friends, you served me well', and decided she needed to go shopping.

a letter to my 18 year old selfie

oh hey 18 year old me, what's good?

i see you have discovered the rimmel london lipsticks in super drug, and may i say that colour is poppin'. i can also see here that you've just found out about eyebrow threading, so big up to you! although filling in eyebrows has not yet been added to the 'dream matte mouse, mascara, bourjois blusher and finish' make up routine yet.

don't worry, it will come.
